Revolutionising storytime for young readers nationwide.

Australian stories without boundaries.

Digital storytelling at national scale

A digital storytelling platform was created for a national library-sector initiative to help public libraries share Australian picture books with families, educators and young readers online.

The platform extended the familiar storytime experience beyond library buildings, creating new opportunities for children to engage with Australian stories from home, school and other community settings.

The platform required to provide an intuitive experience for young audiences and families while giving participating libraries a practical way to manage authorised digital content. It also needed to operate within established copyright and licensing arrangements that recognised the rights of authors, illustrators and publishers.

Public library storytime supports early literacy, language development and stronger connections between children, families and their local libraries. Access can nevertheless be affected by location, opening hours, mobility, family circumstances and disruptions to in-person services.

The outcome was an accessible digital service that expanded participation in library storytime and strengthened connections between libraries, families and Australian storytelling. It demonstrates our capability to translate complex content, accessibility and licensing requirements into practical digital platforms designed for national delivery.

The digital storytelling platform created another way for libraries to reach their communities. Young readers could discover Australian picture books through an engaging online experience, while parents, carers and educators gained more flexibility in when and where storytime content could be accessed.

The user experience needed to work for several distinct audiences. Children required a clear, engaging and welcoming interface. Parents, carers and educators needed straightforward navigation and reliable access to appropriate content. Library teams needed an efficient way to organise, manage and deliver approved storytelling material.

User-centred UX/UI design brought these requirements together within one consistent digital environment. Clear content structures helped visitors discover stories without unnecessary complexity, while responsive development supported access across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.

A flexible content-management capability allowed approved material to be organised and maintained without requiring technical expertise for routine updates. This gave authorised users greater control over the digital storytelling experience and supported the consistent presentation of content across the platform.

Separating content management from the underlying platform architecture also made ongoing administration more efficient. Library teams could focus on storytelling and community engagement while the technology supported publishing, presentation and access.

Scalable solution architecture provided the foundation for broader participation without compromising the clarity of the user journey. The platform brought together digital design, content management and custom software development within a unified solution that could evolve alongside the initiative.

The completed platform expanded access to library storytime and created an inclusive digital connection between public libraries, families, educators and young readers. It enabled Australian stories to reach audiences beyond traditional library sessions while preserving appropriate copyright and licensing controls.

This project demonstrates our capability to transform complex sector requirements into accessible and nationally scalable digital services. It brought together business analysis, user-centred design, content management, software development and solution architecture to create a platform shaped around both organisational responsibilities and audience needs.
